Affirmative ও Negative sentence কি?
Affirmative এবং Negative হল Assertive sentence এরই দুইটি ভাগ। অর্থাৎ-
Assertive sentence দুইভাগে বিভক্ত-
- Affirmative- হ্যাঁ-বাচক বা ইতিবাচক
- Negative- না-বাচক বা নেতিবাচক
- Affirmative- He likes tea (সে চা পছন্দ করে।)
- Negative- He does not like tea (সে চা পছন্দ করে না।)

Affirmative sentence টা কি?
Affirmative sentence এর গঠন হল Assertive sentence এরই সরল গঠন-
Subject + Verb + Extension
He grows potato.
তিনি আলু জন্মান।
দেখ, এখানে কোন না-বাচক (Negative) word এর অস্তিত্ব নেই।
- My mother is reading newspaper.
- The earth moves round the sun.
- I like to play chess.
- We live in the age of computer.
- The sky looks gloomy.
- Fruits contain vitamin.
**এই sentence গুলোতে কোন না-জাতীয় (Negative) word নেই। ফলে এরা Affirmative sentence।

তাহলে নিশ্চয় স্পষ্টতঃই বুঝতে পেরেছ Negative sentence কি। অর্থাৎ-
The boy has no parents.- ছেলেটির পিতামাতা নেই।
হ্যাঁ, চল আমরা একনজরে দেখে নিই, কি কি word আছে যা Negative অর্থ প্রদান করে বা একটি sentence কে Negative করে দেয়।

এবার প্রতিটি word দিয়ে গঠিত Negative sentence এর একটি করে উদাহরন দেখ-।
- The sun does not move round the earth.- সূর্য পৃথিবীর চারদিকে ঘুরেনা।
- Water has no color.- পানির কোন রং নেই।
- Man never believes a liar.- মানুষ কখনো মিথ্যাবাদীকে বিশ্বাস করেনা।
- None can please everybody.- কেহই সবাইকে খুশি করতে পারেনা।
- Nobody attended the meeting.- সভায় কেহই উপস্থিত হয়নি।
- I have nothing to say.- আমার বলার কিছুই নেই।
- Neither of the pens will do.- কলম দুইটির কোনটিতেই চলবেনা।
Negative sentence কিভাবে গঠিত হয়?
Subject + Helping Verb + Principal verb + Ext. .
Boys are playing now.
ছেলেরা এখন খেলছে।
Subject + Help. Verb + not + Prin. verb + Ext. .
Boys are not playing now.
ছেলেরা এখন খেলছেনা।
এই পদ্ধতিতে যে কোন Helping verb এর সাথে not বসিয়ে Negative sentence গঠন করা যায়।
প্রসঙ্গত Helping verb এর সম্ভাব্য তালিকাটা এক নজরে দেখে নাও।

- She has not completed her work.
- The sun is not shining brightly.
- We should not speak ill of others.
- It may not rain today.
- A boy cannot do such a work.
- In this way, you might not get any help.
- Girls mustn’t stay here all day long.
এ হল Affirmative এ এমনিতেই Helping verb আছে, এ ধরণের sentence কে Negative করার পদ্ধতি।
Helping verb না থাকলে Principal verb টি তিনটি অবস্থায় থাকতে পারে-
- Base form: যেমন-eat
- s/es-form: যেমন-eats
- Past form: যেমন-ate
Principal verb এর form বিবেচনায় Negative করতে তিনটি Helping verb (do-does-did) আসবে এবং not সহ যথাক্রমে do not/does not/did not অথবা don’t/doesn’t/didn’t বসবে, ঠিক নিচের মত করে-
উল্লেখ্য, don’t/doesn’t/didn’t বসার পরে Principal verb টি সব সময় base form (এখানে- look) হয়ে যাবে।
Affirmative: You write a message.
Negative: You don’t write a message.
Affirmative: She writes a message.
Interrogative: She doesn’t write a message.
Affirmative: I wrote message.
Negative: I didn’t write message.
প্রসঙ্গতঃ Affirmative থেকে Negative এ পরিবর্তনের (Transformation) সমস্ত Rule সহজভাবে বুঝার জন্য নিচের লিঙ্ক অনুসরন কর-

Not ছাড়া অন্যান্য Negative word, যেমন- no, never, nobody, nothing ইত্যাদি দিয়ে কিভাবে Negative sentence গঠন করতে হয়?
No না, নেই, কোন…নেই- এই ধরেনর অর্থ প্রকাশ করে। No একটি Adjective। ফলে এটি Adjective এর মত Noun এর পূর্বে বসে sentence এর Negative কাঠামো দান করে।
- I have no relative here.- আমার এখানে কোন আত্মীয় নেই।
- No bird is seen around here.- এখানে কোন পাখিই দেখা যাচ্ছেনা।
- He built no house for himself.- তিনি নিজের জন্য কোন বাড়ি নির্মান করেননি।
Never অর্থ কখনো না। ‘কখনো কিছু না করা’ বুঝাতে never বসে। Never একটি Adverb। এটি সুবিধাজনকভাবে sentence এর যে কোন স্থানে বসতে পারে।
- I never tell a lie.- আমি কখনো মিথ্যা বলিনা।.
- She was never engaged in politics. তিনি কখনো বাজনীতিতে জড়িত ছিলেন না।
- He went abroad never to come back again.- তিনি বিদেশ গেছেন কখনো ফিরে না আসার জন্য।
প্রসঙ্গতঃ Adverb কোন কোন স্থানে বসতে পারে, সেটা সহজে বুঝার জন্য নিচের লিঙ্ক অনুসরন কর-

Nothing অর্থ- ‘কিছুই না’, যা মূলতঃ বস্তুবাচক বা ধারনাবাচক কিছুর Negative বুঝায়। Nothing একটি Pronoun। সুতরাং sentence এর যে সব স্থানে Noun/Pronoun বসতে পারে, সেখানে ‘nothing’ ও বসতে পারে।
- Nothing is certain in this world.- এই পৃথিবীতে কোন কিছুই নিশ্চিত নয়।.
- There was nothing in the drawer.- ড্রয়ারে কিছুই ছিলনা।
- Something is better than nothing.- নাই মামার চেয়ে কানা মামা ভাল/ না থাকার চেয়ে কিছু থাকা ভাল।
Nobody বা None অর্থ- কেইইনা, যা হল একটি Personal (ব্যক্তিবাচক) Noun। Sentence এ Nobody বা None বা No one বসতে পারে Subject, Object বা অন্য কোন element হিসাবে, যেখানে Noun বসতে পারে।
- Nobody trusts a liar.- মিথ্যাবাদিকে কেহই বিশ্বাস করেনা।
- He has many friends but invited none in his birthday.- তার অনেক বন্ধু আছে কিন্তু জন্মদিনে কাউকেই নিমন্ত্রন করেনি।
- None can escape death.- কেহই মৃত্যুকে এড়াতে পারেনা।
Neither দ্বারা দুইয়ের মধ্যে কেহই/কোনটিই নয় বুঝায়। অর্থাৎ- Neither ব্যক্তি ও বস্তু উভয়ের ক্ষেত্রে বসতে পারে। Neither… nor ব্যবহৃত হলে Neither এর পরে দুইয়ের একটি Noun/Pronoun এবং nor এর পরে অন্যটি বসে।
- Neither of the candidates is eligible for the post.- প্রার্থী দুইয়ের কেহই এই পদের যোয্য নয়।
- Neither Pritom not his brother did it.- প্রিতম বা তার ভাই কেহই এটা করেনি।
- I like neither coffee nor tea.– আমি কফি বা চা কিছুই পছন্দ করিনা।
