A street hawker is a self-employed person. He sells different things wandering through lanes and by-lanes and sitting or standing on the pavement. From the street hawker, We usually buy things that we didn’t plan to buy but were tempted for. The walking hawkers carry their goods either in a paddled van, on a handy-cart or on head . He is seen both in the country and the town. But buying things from the hawkers has become a part of urban culture. 
Many a man is choosing work of a hawker as a profession, finding no other way of livelihood. All kinds of daily necessaries, foods, cosmetics, clothes, toys etc. are the common items sold by a hawker. The street hawkers usually use their own voice and tone to hawk at the targeted customers. Sometimes, they are seen wearing peculiar dresses to attract the children. Women and children especially like to buy things from the hawkers by haggling. They are very popular to the customers because they sell things at less price. Children and school going boys and girls feel very amusing buying attractive food items and play-things from a hawker walking on the street. Now-a-days women are also entering this profession in need of earning bread. Actually, the life of a street hawker is not so decent. Most of them adopt this profession because of living. However, this job plays a significant role in removing unemployment.

রাস্তার ফেরিওয়ালা একজন স্বনিয়োজিত ব্যক্তি। সে বিভিন্ন জিনিস বিক্রি করে অলিতে গলিতে ঘুরে ফিরে এবং ফুটপাতে বসে বা দাঁড়িয়ে। ফেরিওয়ালাদের কাছ থেকে, আমরা ঐ সমস্ত জিনিস কিনি যা কেনার জন্য আমাদের পরিকল্পনা ছিলনা কিন্তু আমরা তা কিনতে প্রলুব্ধ হয়েছিলাম। হেঁটে-চলা ফেরিওয়ালারা তাদের জিনিসপত্র বহন করে- হয় একটা পা-চালিত ভ্যানে, হস্তচালিত ঠেলাগাড়িতে অথবা মাথায় করে। তাকে দেখা যায় গ্রামে এবং শহরে উভয় স্থানেই। কিন্তু হকারদের কাছ থেকে জিনিস কেনা শহুরে সংস্কৃতির অংশ হয়ে পড়েছে। অনেকেই জীবিকার অন্য কোন উপায় না পেয়ে ফেরিওয়ালার কাজকে পেশা হিসাবে বেছে নিচ্ছে। সব ধরনের নিত্যপ্রয়োজনীয় জিনিসপত্র- খাদ্য, কসমেটিক্স, খেলনা ইত্যাদি হকারদের দ্বারা বিক্রিত সাধারণ আইটেম। রাস্তার ফেরিওয়ালারা সাধারণত তাদের নিজস্ব কন্ঠ ও সুর ব্যবহার করে তাদের কাঙ্খিত কাস্টমারকে লক্ষ্য করে হাঁকতে। মাঝে মাঝে তাদেরকে অদ্ভূত পোশাক পরিধান করতে দেখা যায় শিশুদের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করতে। বিশেষত নারী ও শিশুরা হকারদের থেকে জিনিসপত্র কিনতে পছন্দ করে দরকষাকষির মাধ্যমে। তারা কাস্টমারদের কাছে খুবই জনপ্রিয় কারণ তারা স্বল্পমূল্যে জিনিস বিক্রি করে। শিশু এবং স্কুলগামী ছেলে ও মেয়েরা খুবই আনন্দিত বোধ করে রাস্তার ফেরিওয়ালাদের কাছ থেকে আকর্ষণীয় খাদ্য আইটেম ও খেলনা ক্রয় করে। ইদানিং মহিলারাও এই পেশায় প্রবেশ করতেছে জীবিকা অর্জনের প্রয়োজনে। যাই হোক রাস্তার ফেরিওয়ালাদের জীবন মোটেই ভদ্রোচিত নয়। বেশিরভাগই এ পেশাকে অবলম্বন করে বেঁচে থাকার প্রয়োজনে। যাই হোক বেকারত্ব দূরীকরণে এই পেশা তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে।
