Rights of Women in Islam

Allah created human beings as men and women. In the development process of human civilization, both have separate distinctive roles. None of them is lower than the other. Before the arrival of Islam, the status of women was very low. They were treated as though they were animals. Islam elevated women’s status from a trifling creature to respectable human being. This is Islam that placed women as equal to men in all respects.
Islam has conferred due rights upon women as daughters, sisters, mothers, and wives. Islam has glorified women with perfect social and economic rights, elevated her status, and implemented moral and legal safeguards in its system. Islam has made ‘Moharana’, a one-time payment compulsory to men which is given to the bride during the marriage. Women also enjoy the rights to inheritance from her husband, father, children, and other nearest relations. All this wealth is the property of her own and none others. She has absolute freedom to choose her husband and marrying her off to anyone without her consent is prohibited in Islam. A woman has the same right as men to acquire knowledge. In fact, Islam has given women real freedom assuring social peace and stability in respect of the mutual relationship between man and woman. It is said in the Holy Quran, “In My sight all of you are alike.” – (Surah Al-Imran: Ayat 195). As a matter of fact, opposing all disrespect and disparity, Islam has crowned women with equal honor in all- social, economic, political, and religious respects which is relevant in all places and ages.
