Mother Teresa was a harbinger of peace and a great worker of humanity. She dedicated herself for the welfare of the poor people. She was born on August 26, 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia but India was her work place where she spent almost the whole of her life as the servant of humanity. Now her benevolent activities are spreading all over the world.
In India, her heart was moved to see the epidemic that spread in the streets of Calcutta. There she founded a nursing home named “Nirmol Hridoy”. She and her fellow nurses brought dying people off the streets of Calcutta to this home and took intensive care of them. After the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971, she came to Bangladesh to help war-torn people. Thus, Mother Teresa extended her hands of mercy to the sick, dying helpless and destitute with motherly affection and care lifelong. In recognition of her selfless work, she was awarded the Nobel Prize for peace in 1979. She also received many other awards along with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of India. This great woman died on September 5, 1997. The world will ever remember this lofty humane worker.
