My dear Thomas,
Your last letter impressed me highly. You wanted to know about our country and people in that letter. I’m gladly replying to that.
Our country Bangladesh came into being in 1971 from the domination of Pakistan. It is a small country with an area of 1,44,000 sq km. But our population is large— about 140 million. So, we’re blessed that we can earn foreign exchange by exporting manpower. Bangladesh is an agro-based country. So, people mainly live by farming. It is a non-communal and democratic country. People of different religions and tribes live here with peace and amity. Our country is blessed with natural beauty. Many rivers, hills, seas, forests and greeneries are the source of this incomparable beauty. Only within four decades of independence, our country has made a great progress.
