Direct speech থেকে Indirect এ পরিবর্তন: Part-2 (Interrogative sentence)

• YES/NO Question: Helping Verb দিয়ে শুরু যা শুধুমাত্র হ্যাঁ/না উত্তরদায়ী প্রশ্ন (Yes/No Question) সৃষ্টি করে; যেমন- “Can you help me?”


• WH Question: WH-Word (What, When, Why….) দিয়ে শুরু যা অন্য সকল ধরনের প্রশ্ন সৃষ্টি করে; যেমন- “How can you help me?”

• Reporting verb: Reporting verb ‘say to’ এর বদলে ‘ask’ বসবে। সংগত কারনেই, ‘says to’ এর বদলে ‘asks’; এবং ‘said to’ এর স্থলে ‘asked’ বসবে।
• Linking word: Sentence টি Helping verb দিয়ে শুরু (Yes/No Question) হলে Linking word হিসাবে if বা whether বসবে।
  Sentence টি WH-word দিয়ে শুরু (WH-Question) হলে Linking word হিসাবে এই WH-word টিই বসবে।
• Person-Tense-Word: যথারীতি Person, Tense ও সম্ভাব্য Word এর পরিবর্তন হবে।
• Sentence টি Assertive হয়ে যাবে। ফলে Linking Word এর পরে প্রথমে Subject, তারপর (Helping Verb + Principal verb) ও পরে বাকি অংশ বসবে।
• Question-mark (?) উঠে গিয়ে শেষে Full stop (.) বসবে।

• Direct Narration এর Reported Speech এর Inverted Comma (“….”) উঠে যাবে।
• Reporting verb পরবর্তী বা (Reporting verb + Object) পরবর্তী যে Comma (,) থাকে, সেটা উঠে যাবে।
• Inverted Comma এর ভিতরের sentence এর প্রথম letter টি Capital হয়। Indirect এ Inverted Comma উঠে যায় বলে Capital letter থাকবেনা।
• Sentence এর শেষে Full stop (.) বসবে।

Direct: He said, “Are they joining the party?”.
Indirect: He asked if they were joining the party.”

• Reporting verb ‘said’ এর বদলে ‘asked’ বসেছে।
• দুটি clause এর মাঝে Linking word ‘if’ আনা হয়েছে।
• If এর পর Reported Speech এর Subject ‘they’ সবার আগে বসেছে।
• তারপর Helping verb ‘are’ পরিবর্তিত হয়ে ‘were’ বসেছে।
• Principal verb ‘joining’ অপরিবর্তিত অবস্থায় বসেছে।
• বাকি অংশ বসেছে।
• শেষে Full stop (.) বসেছে।

Direct: He said to me, “Were you ill?”.
Indirect: He asked me if/whether I had been ill.”

Direct: You said to me, “Can you give me a shirt?”
Indirect: You asked me if I could give you a shirt?”.

Direct: My brother said to me, “Will you go shopping with me?”.
Indirect: My brother asked me if I would go shopping with him?”.

Direct: The teacher said to Runa, “Have you completed your study?”
Indirect: The teacher asked Runa if she had completed her study.

Direct: The beggar said to the boy, “Could you give me a coin?”.
Indirect: The beggar asked the boy if he could give him/her a coin.

Direct: The waiter said to me, “Do you need tea?”
Indirect: The waiter asked me if I needed tea.

Direct: My sister said, “Does the baby rise early in the morning everyday?”
Indirect: My sister asked if the baby rose early in the morning everyday.

Direct: The man said to the boy, “Don’t you like village life?”
Indirect: The man asked the boy if he didn’t like village life?.

Direct: She said to her brother, “Did you go there in time?”
Indirect: She asked her brother if he had gone there in time?

Direct:They said to the girl, “Didn’t we see you in the airport?”
Indirect: They asked the girl if they hadn’t seen her in the airport.

Direct: He said, “What should I do?”.
Indirect: He asked what he should do.”

• Reporting verb ‘said’ এর বদলে ‘asked’ বসেছে।
• দুটি clause এর মাঝে Linking word ‘if’ আনা হয়েছে।
• Reported Speech এর সূচনাকারী WH-Word টি Linking word হিসাবে বসেছে।
• Reported Speech এর Subject ‘I’ Person এর নিয়মে পরিবর্তিত হয়ে ‘he’ বসেছে।
• Helping verb ‘should’ পরিবর্তন হয়না বলে অপরিবর্তিত অবস্থায় বসেছে।
• Principal verb ‘do’ অপরিবর্তিত অবস্থায় বসেছে।
• শেষে Full stop (.) বসেছে।

Direct: Mother said to me, “When are you going to school?”
Indirect: Mother asked me when I was going to school.

Direct: The boy said to his mother, “When will you prepare cake for me?”
Indirect: The boy asked his mother when she would prepare cake for him.

Direct: The girl said to her father, “Why have you returned from your office so early?”
Indirect: The girl asked her father why he had returned from his office so early.

Direct:The foreigner said, “How can I get to Hotel Sonargaon?”
Indirect: The foreigner asked how he could get to Hotel Sonargaon.

Direct: You said to my brother, “Why had you complain against your friend?”
Indirect: You asked my brother Why he had complained against his friend.

Direct: His mother said to him, “What do you need?”
Indirect: His mother asked him what he needed.

Direct: Mother said to the daughter, “Why did you think over trifling things?”
Indirect: Mother asked the daughter why she had thought over trifling things.

Direct: The caretaker said to the boy, “Why don’t you keep things in right place.”
Indirect: The caretaker asked the boy why he didn’t keep things in right place.

Direct: The gentleman said, “Why doesn’t the government clean up the streets everyday.”
Indirect: The gentleman asked why the government didn’t clean up the streets everyday..

Direct: They said to her, “Why can’t you help us?”
Indirect: They asked her why she couldn’t help them.

Direct: The students said to the teacher, “When will our examination start?”
Indirect: The students asked the teacher when their examination would start.

Direct: She said to her brother, “Which pen will you give me?”
Indirect: She asked her brother which pen he would give her.

Direct: Father said to the daughter, “How much money do you need to buy the books?”
Indirect: Father asked the daughter, “How much money she needed to buy the books.

Direct: Rakib said to Shakib, “Whose pen did you borrow?”
Indirect: Rakib asked Shakib whose pen he (Shakib) had borrowed.
