Direct speech to Indirect: Let us যুক্ত Imperative
Let us দিয়ে শুরু Imperative sentence গুলো দ্বারা প্রস্তাব বুঝায়; যেমন- Let us go home now (চল এখন বাড়ি যাই)।
এ ধরনের sentence গুলোর structure হল-

এধরনের Imperative sentence কে Direct থেকে Indirect করতে নিম্নলিখিত পরিবর্তন করতে হবে-
- Reporting verb: Reporting verb ‘say’ এর বদলে propose বা suggest বসবে। ‘say to + OBJECT’ থাকিলে ‘propose to + OBJECT’ বা ‘suggest to + OBJECT’ বসবে।
- Linking word: Linking word হিসাবে that বসবে।
- that এর পরে Subject হিসাবে We, You বা They বসবে। কখন কোনটি বসবে, সেটা পরবর্তীতে clarify করা হয়েছে।
- Subject এর পরে should বসবে।
- Let us পরবর্তী Verb এর base form টি বসবে (Let us উঠে যাবে)।
- অবশিষ্ট অংশ বসবে।
- Person-Tense-Word: অতিরিক্ত কোন clause না থাকলে tense এর পরিবর্তন হবেনা। যথারীতি Person ও সম্ভাব্য Word এর পরিবর্তন হবে।
+ সকল Sentence এর জন্য Common পরিবর্তনের Rule গুলি প্রযোজ্য হবে যা পূর্ববর্তী প্রতিটি lesson এ দেওয়া আছে।
that এর পর Subject কোনটি বসবে, এ ব্যাপারে সচরাচর কোন Grammar বইতেই সুনির্দিষ্ট কোন guideline পাওয়া যায়না। যাই হোক, তোমরা Subject টি যদি most appropriately বসাতে চাও, তবে নিচের Rule টি অনুসরন কর-
- Reporting verb এর Subject বা Object হিসাবে যদি First person থাকে, তবে We বসবে।
- Reporting verb এর Subject বা Object হিসাবে যদি First person না থাকে, কিন্তু কোথাও second person থাকে, তবে You বসবে।
- Reporting verb এর Subject বা Object হিসাবে যদি First person ও second person দুটোই থাকে, তবে First person অগ্রাধিকার; অর্থাৎ We বসবে।
- Reporting verb এর Subject বা Object হিসাবে যদি First person ও second person কোনটিই না থাকে, অর্থাৎ শুধু Third person থাকে, তবে They বসবে।
উদাহরনে বিষয়টিকে clarify করা হয়েছে।
Direct: I said to him, “Let us walk fast.”
Indirect: I proposed to him that we should walk fast.
Direct: They said to me, “Let us have a picnic this week.”
Indirect: They proposed to me that we should have a picnic that week.
Direct: He said, “Let us find the solution to this problem.”
Indirect: He proposed that they should find the solution to that problem.
লক্ষ্য কর (নিচে): First person নেই। Reporting verb এর Object হিসাবে second person আছে, ফলে that এর পরে subject ‘you’ বসেছে।
Direct: She said to you, “Let us clean the classroom.”
Indirect: She suggested to you that you should clean the classroom.
First person ও second person নেই। Reporting verb এর Subject ও Object হিসাবে third person আছে, ফলে that এর পরে subject ‘they’ বসেছে।
Direct: Kamal said to Tomal, “Let us take a rest for a while.”
Indirect: Kamal suggested to Tomal that they should take a rest for a while.
Second person নেই। Reporting verb এর Object হিসাবে First person আছে, ফলে subject ‘We’ বসেছে।
Direct: Father said to me, “Let us go to visit the country-side.”
Indirect: Father proposed to me that we should go to visit the country-side.
Reporting verb এর subject হিসাবে First person এবং object হিসাবে second person আছে, First person আগে বসবে; ফলে subject ‘We’ বসেছে।
Direct: I said to you, “Let us make a garden together.”
Indirect: I proposed to you that we should make a garden together.
