03. Active থেকে Passive: Double Object যুক্ত Assertive

Voice পরিবর্তন বা Active voice থেকে Passive voice এ পরিবর্তনের সম্ভাব্য কলাকৌশলগুলো (Tricks) Lesson-wise উপস্থাপনের ধারাবাহিকতায় বর্তমান ৩য় Lesson টিতে আমরা Double Object যুক্ত Assertive sentence নিয়ে আলোচনা করব।

আমরা এখন যে ধরনের sentence নিয়ে আলোচনে করব, তার structure নিম্নরূপ-

Subject + Verb + Indirect Object + Direct Object

Active to Passive: Double Object যুক্ত Assertive

সর্বপ্রথমে আমরা (Subject + Verb + Object) যুক্ত Assertive sentence কে Active থেকে Passive করতে যে Common সূত্রটি পূর্বোক্ত Lesson এ উপস্থাপন করেছি, তা স্মরন করে নিই-

Active থেকে Passive করতে নিম্নলিখিত ৫ ধরনের পরিবর্তন ধারাবাহিকভাবে একযোগে করতে হয়-

  1. Object এর Subject রূপ দেওয়া।
  2. Helping verb (to be form) বসানো।
  3. Principal (Main) verb কে Past participle (V3) তে পরিবর্তন।
  4. আবশ্যিকভাবে একটি Preposition (সাধারনত by) বসানো।
  5. Subject এর Object রূপ দেওয়া।

এখন এই Lesson এ আমরা যে ধরনের Sentence নিয়ে deal করতে যাচ্ছি (Subject + Verb + Indirect Object + Direct Object), সে ধরনের sentence এর একগুচ্ছ উদাহরন নিই Lesson শেষে আমরা যার সহজ সমাধান পেয়ে যাব (শিখনফল)-

Target Examples
  1. She gave me the true message.
  2. The man showed the police his ID card.
  3. He is going to lend me his car.
  4. This rich man should donate the poor some money.
  5. You could have told them the incident.
  6. This mother doesn’t feed the baby extra food.
  7. Every guardian has to teach the children moral lessons.
  8. The mayor couldn’t pay the pied piper a thousand guilder.
  9. Government approves them a decent loan.
  10. I was giving him ‘Fitra’

লক্ষনীয়, উপরোক্ত সবগুলো Active Sentence ই আমাদের উপরোলিখিত Target structure কে অনুসরণ করে চলে। Active mode এ উদাহরনসহ structure টিকে পুনরায় দেখে নেওয়া যাক-

উল্লেখ্য, structure এ আমরা শুধু Verb উল্লেখ করেছি। সেটা হতে পারে শুধু Principal verb অথবা Helping verb + Principal verb। Voice changing এর দুটি কৌশলই আমরা আলাদাভাবে পূর্বে উপস্থাপন করেছি, প্রয়োজনে উপরের Link (Related Link) অনুসরন করে study করে নাও-

এখন প্রশ্ন হল, আমাদের Target Active structure টিকে আমরা কিভাবে Passive এ পরিবর্তন করতে পারি?

সাধারন সূত্র হল, দুটি Object এর যে কোন একটি Object কে Passive voice এর Subject হিসাবে বসিয়ে অবশিষ্ট Object টিকে অপরিবর্তিত অবস্থায় Verb এর পরে বসিয়ে আমরা এ ধরনের sentence কে দুইটি পদ্ধতিতে Active থেকে Passive এ পরিণত করতে পারি। ঠিক নিচের মত করে-

স্পষ্টতঃ ১ম ক্ষেত্রে, Indirect Object (me) কে Subject (I) করা হয়েছে। Direct Object (the true message) টি অপরিবর্তিত অবস্থায় Verb এর পরে বসেছে।

আর, ২য় ক্ষেত্রে, Direct Object (the true message) কে Subject (the true message) করা হয়েছে। Indirect Object (me) টি অপরিবর্তিত অবস্থায় Verb এর পরে বসেছে।

English grammar এ এই অপরিবর্তিত Object টিকে Retained Object বলে।

হিসাবটা স্পষ্ট, Indirect Object কে Subject করলে Direct Object অপরিবর্তিত থাকবে আবার, Direct Object কে Subject করলে Indirect Object অপরিবর্তিত থাকবে।

কিন্তু তোমরা কোন Object টিকে Subject করবে? বা, কোন Object টিকে Subject করা তোমাদের জন্য সুবিধাজননক?

মনে রেখ, সাধারনত Double Object এর ক্ষেত্রে তোমরা যে কোন Object কেই Subject করতে পার। কিন্তু আমার Suggestion হল, তোমরা Verb এর পর পর যে Indirect (ব্যক্তিবাচক) Object থাকে সেটাকেই Subject করবে। এতে তোমরা অন্য নিয়মের সাথে বিভ্রান্তির ভুল এড়াতে পারবে। নিচের উদাহরনটি লক্ষ্য কর-

We called him scientist

এই উদাহরনটিতে verb (called) এর পরে ‘him’ এবং ‘scientist’ word দুটি কি Object? না তা নয়। এখানে him হল Indirect Object আর scientist হল Objective complement যদিও দৃশ্যতঃ word দুটিকে Double Object বলেই মনে হয়।

এই Sentence টি হল Factitive verb যুক্ত sentence এর একটি উদাহরন যেখানে ‘call’ হল Factitive verb। এই sentence টিকে Passive করতে গেলে Indirect Object (me) কেই শুধুমাত্র Object করা যাবে, scientist কে নয়।

এখন বুঝতে পারলে তো কেন Indirect Object কেই Subject করা তোমাদের জন্য সুবিধাজননক?

যাই হোক, Factitive verb এর basic এবং Factitive verb সংশ্লিষ্ট Voice changing নিয়ে আমরা পৃথক Lesson এ আলোচনা করেছি। নিচের লিঙ্ক থেকে দেখে নিতে পার-

এখন চল ব্যখ্যা-বিশ্লেষন সহকারে দুটি question solve করি। আমরা Target example থেকে example 9 ও 10 নিব। তোমাদের বোঝার সুবিধার্থে sentence দুটিকে আমাদের target structure অনুসারে ভাগ করে দেখানো হল-

Active: Government approves them a decent loan.
Passive: They are approved a decent loan by Government.

Explanation
  1. Object to Subject: Active voice এর Indirect Object (them) কে Passive voice এর Subject (they) করা হয়েছে।
  2. Helping Verb: Active voice এর Principal verb present (s/es) form (approves) বলে Helping verb am/is/are হতে they এর সাথে are বসেছে।
  3. Principal verb (V3): Principal verb ‘approve’ এর V3 বা Past participle form ‘approved’ বসেছে।
  4. Retained Object: অবশিষ্ট direct Object (a decent loan) অপরিবর্তিত অবস্থায় বসেছে।
  5. Preposition: যথারীতি Preposition ‘by’ বসেছে।
  6. Subject to Object: Active voice এর Subject (Government) টি Noun বলে Passive voice এ by এর Object হিসাবে অপরিবর্তিত রয়েছে।
Target example-9 (পদ্ধতি-২)

Active: Government approves them a decent loan.
Or, Passive: A decent loan is approved them by Government.

Explanation
  1. Object to Subject: Active voice এর Direct Object (A decent loan) Noun বলে একে Passive voice এর Subject করা হয়েছে।
  2. Helping Verb: Active voice এর Principal verb present (s/es) form (approves) বলে Helping verb am/is/are হতে A decent loan (third person-singular) এর সাথে is বসেছে।
  3. Principal verb (V3): Principal verb ‘approve’ এর V3 বা Past participle form ‘approved’ বসেছে।
  4. Retained Object: অবশিষ্ট Indirect Object (them) অপরিবর্তিত অবস্থায় বসেছে।
  5. Preposition: যথারীতি Preposition ‘by’ বসেছে।
  6. Subject to Object: Active voice এর Subject (Government) টি Noun বলে Passive voice এ by এর Object হিসাবে অপরিবর্তিত রয়েছে।
Target example-10 (পদ্ধতি-১)

Active: I was giving him ‘Fitra’.
Passive: He was being given ‘Fitra’ by me.

Explanation
  1. Object to Subject: Active voice এর Indirect Object (him) কে Passive voice এর Subject (He) করা হয়েছে।
  2. Helping Verb: Active voice এর Helping verb ‘was’ Passive voice এ was being/were being হতে he এর সাথে was being বসেছে।
  3. Principal verb (V3): Principal verb ‘give’ এর V3 বা Past participle form ‘given’ বসেছে।
  4. Retained Object: অবশিষ্ট Direct Object (‘Fitra’) অপরিবর্তিত অবস্থায় বসেছে।
  5. Preposition: যথারীতি Preposition ‘by’ বসেছে।
  6. Subject to Object: Active voice এর Subject (I) টি পরিবর্তিত হয়ে Passive voice এ me বসেছে।
Target example-10 (পদ্ধতি-২)

Active: I was giving him ‘Fitra’.
Or, Passive: ‘Fitra’ was being given him by me.

Explanation
  1. Object to Subject: Active voice এর Direct Object (‘Fitra’) Noun বলে একে অপরিবর্তিত অবস্থায় Passive voice এর Subject করা হয়েছে।
  2. Helping Verb: Active voice এর Helping verb ‘was’ Passive voice এ was being/were being হতে ‘Fitra’ (third person-singular) এর সাথে was being বসেছে।
  3. Principal verb (V3): Principal verb ‘give’ এর V3 বা Past participle form ‘given’ বসেছে।

  6. Subject to Object: Active voice এর Subject (I) টি পরিবর্তিত হয়ে Passive voice এ me বসেছে।

আশা করছি তোমরা (Sub. + Verb + Indirect Object + Direct Object) যুক্ত Active voice কে Passive করার কৌশলটা আয়ত্ব করে ফেলেছ।

এবার বর্তমান Lesson এ তোমার অর্জিত knowledge এর আলোকে Target examples এর উত্তরগুলো মিলিয়ে নাও-

Answers
  1. I was given the true message by her.
    Or, The true message was given me by her.
  2. The police was showed his ID card by the man.
    Or, His ID card was showed the police by the man.
  3. I was going to be lent his car by him.
    Or, His car was going to be lent me by him.
  4. The poor should be donated some money by this rich man.
    Or, Some money should be donated the poor by this rich man.
  5. They could have been told the incident by you.
    Or, The incident could have been told them by you.
  6. The baby isn’t fed extra food by this mother.
    Or, Extra food isn’t fed the baby by this mother.
  7. Children have to be taught moral lessons by every guardian.
    Or, Moral lessons have to be taught the children by every guardian.
  8. The pied piper couldn’t be paid a thousand guilder by the mayor.
    Or, A thousand guilder couldn’t be paid the pied piper by the mayor.
  9. They are approved a decent loan by the government.
    Or, A decent loan is approved them by the government.
  10. He was being given ‘Fitra’ by me.
    Or, ‘Fitra’ was being given him by me.
Conclusion

(Subject + Verb + Indirect Object + Direct Object) যুক্ত Assertive sentence কে Passive করতে-

  • যে কোন একটি Object কে Passive voice এর Subject করবে।
  • অবশিষ্ট Object টিকে অপরিবর্তিত অবস্থায় Verb এর পরে বসাবে
  • সব সময় Indirect Object টিকে Subject করার চেষ্টা করবে।
