23. Active থেকে Passive: ‘by’ ছাড়া অন্য prepositions যুক্ত Passive
Voice পরিবর্তন বা Active voice থেকে Passive voice এ পরিবর্তনের ২৩তম Lesson টিতে আমরা Passive এ ‘by’ ছাড়া অন্যান্য Preposition প্রয়োজন হয় এমন sentence নিয়ে আলোচনা করব।
সাধারনত Passive voice এ Agent এর পূর্বে ‘by’ বসে। অর্থাৎ Active voice এর Subject বা কর্তা বা Agent টি Passive voice এ Object এ পরিনত হলে তার পূর্বে আবশ্যিকভাবে ‘by’ বসে। পূর্বোক্ত lesson গুলোতে আমরা তাই দেখে এসেছি। কিন্তু ব্যতিক্রম কিছু ক্ষেত্রে ‘by’ এর বদলে অন্যান্য Preposition (at, to …) বসে। এটা প্রধানত হয় Verb এর কারনে। Verb এর নিজস্ব চরিত্রের কারনেই তা Passive এর সাথে Active এর অর্থের সমন্বয় করতে অন্যান্য Preposition গ্রহণ করে।
আমরা এখন যে ধরনের sentence নিয়ে আলোচনে করব, তার structure নিম্নরূপ-

মনে রাখতে হবে, এখানে আমরা মূল Rule গুলো Highlight করবনা, তা পূর্ববর্তী lesson গুলোতে করা হয়েছে। এখানে শুধু কোন কোন situation এ বা কোন কোন verb এর সাথে by ছাড়া অন্যান্য preposition বসবে সেগুলো তুলে ধরব।
Passive এ ‘by’ ছাড়া সচরাচর ব্যবহৃত (commonly-used) হয় এমন Preposition তালিকাটা দেখে নাও-
- to
- with
- at
- in etc.
এখন এগুলো সম্পর্কে আলাদা আলাদাভাবে বিস্তারিত জেনে নাও-
Passive এ ‘to’ বসে এরূপ বহুল ব্যবহৃত verb হল ‘Know (জানা)’। এছাড়া Main verb হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত Marry (বিয়ে করা), Oblige (বাধিত করা) এর সাথেও passive এ to বসে।
Active: I know him.
Passive: He is known to me. (by হবেনা)
Active: He married a teen-girl.
Passive: A teen-girl was married to him.
Active: The principal obliged the boy.
Passive: The boy was obliged to the principal.
Passive এ ‘with’ বসে এরূপ সচরাচর ব্যবহৃত verb হল-
- pleased (সন্তুষ্ট)
- charmed (মোহিত)
- disgusted (বিরক্ত)
- impressed (মুগ্ধ)
Active: His speech charmed us.
Passive: We were charmed with his speech.
Active: Luna’s performance has impressed me.
Passive: I have been impressed with Luna’s performance.
Active: Omar’s homework pleased the teacher.
Passive: The teacher was pleased with Omar’s homework.
সচরাচর নিম্নলিখিত Verb গুলোর সাথে Passive এ ‘at’ বসে-
- surprised (বিস্মিত)
- annoyed (বিরক্ত)
- shocked (্মর্মাহত)
- alarmed (শঙ্কিত)
- disappointed (হতাশ)
- displeased (অসন্তুষ্ট)
- astonished (বিস্মিত)
- distressed (পীড়িত)
Active: Her performance annoyed all.
Passive: All were annoyed at her performance.
Active: The news astonished us.
Passive: We were astonished at the news.
Active: The result of his final examination disappointed me.
Passive: I was disappointed at the result of his final examination.
Active: His father’s premature death shocked us.
Passive: We were shocked at his father’s premature death.
Passive এ সচরাচর যে সমস্ত verb এর পরে ‘in’ বসে সেগুলো হল-
- interested (আগ্রহী)
- contained (অন্তর্ভূক্ত)
- published (্প্রকাশিত)
- absorbed (্নিমগ্ন)
Active: The Readers’ Digest published this news.
Passive: This news was published in the Readers’ Digest.
Active: This pond contains huge fishes.
Passive: Huge fishes are contained in this pond.
Active: This app might interest you.
Passive: You might be interested in this app.

Passive এ ‘by’ ছাড়া অন্যান্য preposition বসে এরূপ sentence কে Passive করতে-
- উপরোক্ত verb এর তালিকাগুলো ভালভাবে মনে রাখতে হবে।
- নির্ধারিত verb এর পরে নির্ধারিত Preposition টি বসাতে হবে।
